Good idea, minor app issues

We tried the Amsterdam city escape last month. The concept is really fun, a great way to see the city and solve puzzles. The instructions were clear for the most part. My only real gripe was the app could be a bit finicky at times, especially with GPS tracking in crowded areas. It didn't ruin the experience, but we had to restart it once which was a small interruption. Overall, good value for a few hours of entertainment and exploring.

Consistent fun in Den Haag

This was my third time using Outsite, this time for the Den Haag city escape. I've done Amsterdam and Utrecht before. They're consistently good. The experience was just as reliable as the previous times; the app worked well, and the puzzles were clever. It's nice to know what to expect. Still a great way to explore a new city, or even one you know well, from a different perspective. They haven't changed much, which is fine because it works.

Had a blast in Haarlem

So we did the Haarlem city escape last weekend and it was actually pretty cool. My friend booked it, and we just showed up and started playing through the app. It was a nice change from just walking around. The riddles made us really look at the buildings and stuff. We got a bit stuck on one puzzle, but the hints helped us out. Definitely a fun way to hang out and see the city.

Detailed experience in Rotterdam

I booked the Rotterdam city escape for a weekend outing. The booking process online was straightforward, and I received the confirmation email instantly with all the necessary details for accessing the game via their app. Delivery of the game, so to speak, was just downloading the app and starting when we were ready. Support wasn't needed, everything worked. The puzzles were well integrated with the city's landmarks and made us really look at things differently. The quality of the riddles was good, not too easy but not impossible. We played with four people and it took us just over 2.5 hours. It's a solid way to see Rotterdam and have an activity at the same time. The app was mostly stable, though sometimes the hints came up a little fast for our liking if we weren't quick enough.

Decent fun for the price

I was looking for something affordable to do with friends and found the Utrecht city escape. The price was pretty fair, especially compared to other activities. We got a small group discount which was nice. It felt like we got our money's worth for the few hours we spent. Not super challenging, but definitely a fun way to walk around. Happy with the purchase.

Anyone done both Outside Escape and Mystery City Games? Wondering which one is better for a tourist group visiting Amsterdam.

T Tara Foster 2 months ago
I've only done Outside Escape in Amsterdam, but I really liked how it blended the riddles with actual sightseeing. Felt like we saw more than just doing a regular tour.

Mystery City Games is also good, but I personally found Outside Escape's app interface a bit smoother and the story felt more integrated with the city itself. For tourists, I think Outside Escape gives a better overall feel for the place while solving puzzles.

Can you just start an Outside Escape whenever you want, or are there specific times you have to book for?

M Mike Ito 3 months ago
That's the cool part, you can literally start whenever you feel like it. No fixed times, which is super convenient.

Yep, it's totally self-guided. Just show up and start playing through the app. We started ours in Den Haag mid-afternoon on a whim.

What if it starts raining during the game? Do you just get soaked or is there a policy for bad weather?

W Wendy 2 months ago
Hmm, I don't think they really have a 'bad weather policy' like a refund or anything since you can start anytime. It's an outdoor game, so probably just bring an umbrella or reschedule if the forecast looks rough.

Yeah, it's kinda on you for the weather. We got caught in a shower in Rotterdam but just found an archway to duck under for a bit. Maybe check the forecast before you head out!

Is there a student discount for these escape tours? Wanna do one with some friends but every little bit helps.

D Daisy 2 months ago
Yeah, they usually have student discounts! I'd check their site or social media for current codes. I used one for the Leiden game last semester.

I've seen student deals pop up. Sometimes they partner with student associations too, so that's worth looking into.

Does anyone know if you need to be constantly online for this? Like, do I need mobile data the whole time or can I download stuff beforehand?

E Emma Walsh 2 months ago
Nah, you actually don't need continuous internet. Once you start, it mostly works offline. I think you just need it initially to load it up and maybe for some very specific parts, but generally you're good.

Yeah, pretty sure you can download the game elements beforehand. My phone was on low power mode most of the time and it worked fine without a constant signal.
